The Leader Forum within the Galway Centre for Independent Living (GCIL) organised a Disability Art Exhibition as part of Social Inclusion week which was held from the 17th – 23rd October 2011. The exhibition was on show throughout the week in the Galway City Library.

The exhibition consisted of a display of art work, crotchet blanket, audio recordings of music, poetry and a story. All this work was original and of such a high caliber. The aim of this exhibition was to turn our disabilities into an ability in order to create a positive attitude towards people with disabilities in the community.

The Leader Forum launched our first ever Art Exhibition on Tuesday 18th October at 5:30pm with the honour of the Mayor of Galway, Hildegard Naughton in attendance. She officially launched the exhibition, followed by a speech from Sean Healy, the Manager of GCIL, and finally a conclusion speech from Gina Mc Namara on behalf of the Leader Forum. This was followed by a cheese and wine reception and a chance for the general public to mingle among us people with disabilities in order to promote inclusion.

The Leader Forum organised an art exhibition with a difference and in a creative way to ensure it was accessible for all and to attract the attention of all tastes by having a variety exhibits from creative writing, original music to hand made art work.

On behalf of the Leader Forum we would like to thank all the staff in GCIL for all their support and assistance. A good time was had by all!

President Receives First Copy of Galway Charity's New Brochure

Galway Centre for Independent Living was delighted to present the first copy of their new brochure to President Mary McAleese before the official launch.
Speaking at a conference in Dublin on Independent Living, President McAleese said that too many people with disabilities led lives that were only half-lived because of lack of opportunity, lack of choice¦too much of that lazy old thinking.
Galway Centre for Independent Living aims to challenge this way of thinking by giving people with disabilities the opportunity to live independently through the services that it provides.

Galway Centre for Independent Living officially launch its new logo, brochure and strategic plan at an event held in the Galway Radisson SAS Hotel.

On Monday June 18th 2007, Galway Centre for Independent Living officially launched its new logo, brochure and strategic plan at an event held in the Galway Radisson SAS Hotel.
The brochure was officially launched by Marc Roberts who said The Galway Centre for Independent Living is a well run organisation dedicated to providing the best quality services.
Jack Callanan, Chairperson, said "I am delighted to present our first strategic plan. I would like to thank my fellow board members and all those who have been involved with the organisation, past and present for their continuing hard work and dedication.
Galway Centre for Independent Living were delighted to welcome representatives from statutory bodies, local and national organisations, service users, personal assistants and a number of local sports personalities to the event.

Galway Centre for Independent Living was founded in 1994 by people with disabilities to provide services to enable them to live independently. Since then the organisation has grown from being run on a voluntary basis to a position where there are now paid employees managing and coordinating the services provided.
The new logo and brochure supports the professional image of a locally based organisation providing quality services to people with disabilities in Galway City and County.
Helen Jackson, Manager, said that With the new brochure, Galway Centre for Independent Living can reach even more people with disabilities in Galway City and County and make them aware of how we can assist them towards achieving Independent Living. This upholds our mission statement which is to provide relevant and meaningful, person-centred services that support the full and equal inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of society.
Everyone in the organisation is committed to achieving the goals outlined in the strategic plan. As a locally based service provider, we are in the best position to maintain a personal connection with all our service users whilst the organisation continues to expand.
